Mia’Sarka is a Greek word that symbolizes “One Flesh”. Registered in East Africa – Uganda, Mia’Sarka Foundation is a Canadian based organization that provides grassroot community outreach and support programs targeting education and health across Uganda, Kenya, and Jamaica.

Rebuilding a Place. Preserving a Legacy.

For Carol Picart, being Maroon is more than ancestry. It is a connection to a living history, a people, and a culture that has endured through generations.

In Accompong, Jamaica, the Maroon Museum stands as an important keeper of that history — a place where stories, traditions, and memories of the Maroon people can be preserved and shared with future generations.

When Hurricane Melissa destroyed the museum, it was not simply a building that was lost. A space that carried the memory and heritage of a community was taken away.

Through the Mia’Sarka Foundation, the museum has been rebuilt.

This film tells the story of that journey — from loss to renewal, and of a community coming together to restore a place that represents who they are and where they come from.

For Mia’Sarka, development is not only about building for tomorrow. It is also about protecting the stories, cultures, and identities that connect us to yesterday.

Victoria Jubilee staff welcome space for wellness, renewal

STAFF at Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston welcomed the opening of the hospital’s renewed lounge and wellness space on Wednesday, a courtyard dedicated to improving the well-being of workers at the institution.

The Carol Picart Courtyard falls under the Ministry of Health & Wellness’ Compassionate Care Programme, which aims to enhance healthcare environments by creating supportive and uplifting spaces for both staff and patients. It was donated by the Mia’Sarka Foundation and named in honour of its founder, Carol Picart.
